The California Interviews:
In September 2025, Kevin Kirkwood traveled to California to record a series of conversations for The Strand. The trip offered the opportunity to meet artists in their own environments and to engage in thoughtful, unhurried dialogue about their practices, influences, and creative lives.
These interviews were recorded on location, in studios, living rooms, dining rooms, and city parks; allowing each conversation to be shaped by place and presence. Rather than focusing on outcomes, the discussions centered on process: how artists think, how they sustain their work over time, and what continues to motivate them to create.
This collection also includes conversations with California-based artists recorded remotely via Zoom during earlier recording opportunities, expanding the scope of the series while maintaining its intimate, conversational approach.
Together, this California series reflects the ongoing mission of The Strand: to document creative voices through careful listening and to build meaningful connections across artistic communities.
