The Europe Interviews:
Kevin Kirkwood spent three months traveling through Europe in the winter of 2025, meeting artists where they live and work and capturing on-location conversations across a range of cities and regions. Recordings took place in Amsterdam and Zaandam in the Netherlands; Berlin in Germany; Paris and Marseille in France; and throughout the Luberon region, including Apt, Lacoste, and Bonnieux. These episodes highlight the environments, routines, and daily practices that shape creative work.
Most episodes seek to understand when and why people make what they make. Conversations focus on process, material, and sustained creative labor, tracing how ideas begin, shift, and persist over time, and how local context informs artistic practice. The Strand exists in the space between studio practice and lived experience, allowing meaning to emerge through place, movement, and dialogue.
With each episode, The Strand becomes a living archive of contemporary creative practice; how ideas evolve, how artists push forward, and how art continues to shape our cultural landscape.
