elevar tu mismo

Project Description

In the winter of 2025, Kirkwood was invited to create an installation in Lacoste, France, as part of a residency with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Throughout the residency, he developed numerous study models, sketches, and experimental environments in pursuit of the ideal installation setting. The final design was selected to represent the creative efforts of both Kirkwood and fellow SCAD alumnus Zimo. Their collaborative work contributed to the success of the Christian Dior Spring 2025 showcase, where their installation served as a key element of the event’s visual experience.

Artist Statement

“elevar tu mismo” explores the concept of using our inherent talents to uplift yourself and each another. Through a network of nylon strands and foam core panels, I connect the street elevation to the back of the cave where a water cistern once stood. This network celebrates themes of connectivity, energy exchange, and collective growth. The raw cave component in this installation is the result of a collaboration between myself and Zimo, a fellow SCAD alum and fashion designer, who will be working in this studio during the Spring 2025 quarter. This collaborative effort highlights the power of working together to uplift and shine a light on each other’s creative endeavors. Through my practice, I aim to foster a supportive, interconnected network that nurtures growth, facilitates the exchange of energy, and cultivates collective success.
