The North Carolina Interviews bring together two visits and two distinct creative communities. In 2024, Kevin Kirkwood traveled primarily to Asheville, recording conversations with artists in their studios and creative spaces just one month before Hurricane Helene devastated the region. Heard now, those interviews preserve a moment of generosity, momentum, and connection in a city whose artists continue to rebuild. In 2026, he returned to North Carolina to visit Charlotte, where conversations with five artists and two gallerists explore the relationships that sustain an art community: the work made in studios, the galleries that champion it, and the collectors and supporters who help it find a life beyond the studio. Together, these episodes offer a portrait of North Carolina’s art world as varied, resilient, and deeply shaped by the people who make and care for the work.
