Sonic Landscape

The hum of machinery, the movement of water against the hull, and the vastness of the open sea shaped this sonic landscape. Created for Is What We Carry Worth Its Weight?, these compositions bring together audio samples I collected, layered, and mixed while imagining the daily lives of those who live and work aboard cargo ships. I thought about the constant movement of a working vessel, but also the quieter moments when the noise fades and those aboard are left alone with their thoughts. In that stillness, memories, hopes, and burdens rise to the surface. Over time, these thoughts become the soundtracks of their lives.
